KYRIL ZLOTNIKOV

LATIN AMERICA

 

Born in Minsk, Belarus, into a family of professional musicians, Kyril Zlotnikov began his studies at the Belarusian State Academy of Music with Professor Vladimir Perlin. He continued his training in Israel with Uzi Wiesel and Hillel Zori and concluded his studies with Michael Khomitzer at the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Israel. During those years he participated in master classes and courses with such prominent musicians as Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, Natalia Gutman, Boris Pergamenschikov, Aldo Parisot and Georgy Kurtag.

 

Since 1991 Kyril Zlotnikov has received a scholarship for his musical achievements from the Israeli American Cultural Foundation, winning prizes at various competitions including the Clairmont, the Braun-Roger Siegl and, more recently, the Pierre Tarcali Prize.

 

He is a founding member of the Jerusalem Quartet, recognized for its artistic creativity, one of the most dynamic and interesting young string quartets in the world and the most important in Israel. With this group he has performed on five continents; since 2002 the Jerusalem Quartet has been recording exclusively for Harmonia Mundi.

 

In addition to his chamber music concerts, Kyril has performed as a soloist with important international orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, the Jerusalem Symphony, the Ludwigsburg Symphony, the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Portugal, the Symphony of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León in Mexico, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Jerusalem Camerata, and enjoys great artistic collaborations with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Pierre Boulez, Lawrence Foster, Asher Fish and Simone Young.

 

He has a wide soloist repertoire that includes the most important works for cello from the baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary music periods.

Kyril is a constant guest at major chamber music festivals from the Proms in London, the Bartók Festival, Vancouver, Menton, Ravinia Rising Stars, Schleswig-Holstein, Jerusalem and Schwetzingen. As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has shared the stage with Daniel Barenboim, Jessye Norman, Pierre Boulez, Elena Bashkirova, Mitsuko Uchida, Natalia Gutman, Tabea Zimmerman, Miriam Fried, Hagai Shaham, Michael Tree, Asher Fish, Nikolaj Znaider, Lang Lang and Richard Stoltzmann.

 

Since 2003 Kyril Zlotnikov has been Principal Cellist and Master of the Cello Section of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim. He frequently performs special projects and tours with the Berlin Staatskapelle Orchestra as principal cello.

 

He recorded all of the Mozart Trios with Barenboim on piano and violinist Nikolaj Znaider and they appeared on the EMI label in 2006.

In 2018 Kyril will be a member of the jury for the International Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne, Australia.

 

Kyril Zlotnikov plays on an instrument built in 1710 by Giovanni Battista Ruggieri and generously given to him by a private collector.
